So, here we are again with Chennai facing the wrath of Global warming and rains playing havoc in the city. People from all around are trying to help, various NGOs are trying to help in full force and I see Bangaloreans coming forward with incredible help and support for the victims. It's quite heart warming to see how humanity takes over all differences and goes beyond self egos, religion, cast and creed when disasters like these strike.
But, do we need disasters like these to be expose our humane side? Once we are done with coping up with this disaster, we should ask ourselves, how can we prevent another Chennai flood situation?
It's going to be a long haul for the people in the city and the authorities to battle the aftermath of these rains. There are going to be diseases, dead animals decomposing all around, rise in crime, rise in prices of all commodities etc. The affected people irrespective of their cast & creed will need to rebuild their lives. The authorities will have a humongous job ahead as they will need to address the administrative issues coupled with the job to rebuild and the infrastructure.
What Chennai is facing today, Kashmir had a similar situation 2 years back (may be not of this magnitude) and we are definitely going to have more and more such natural disasters. It's like the Gun laws in the US, we know the root cause of the problem but we don't want to address it.
We are killing this planet at an exponential rate. It's like a "Race to the Finish" literally & figuratively. The disaster in Chennai, floods in Kashmir, the earthquake in Ladakh & Uttarakhand, the earthquake in Nepal are examples of what Global warming is doing to us.
Mr Al Gore, won his Nobel Prize, got his first billion from Carbon Trading company and has totally disappeared from the face of this earth.
We are not sparing any part of the world without destroying it. The Alaskan cruise, the Antarctica Cruise, Oil exploration in Antarctica and around is not short of a serious criminal offence. The glaciers in Siachen, the glaciers around Himalayas are melting and what we are seeing in Chennai is a trailer of what our kids are going to experience in the years to come.
We should pat ourselves, how much effort we have taken to destroy this planet and now we are getting ambitious about destroying Mars.. Kudos to excess Ambition & Greed!
